| Old Rhine/Oude Rijn |
A river these days flowing roughly
from Utrecht to Leiden. Was in fact the Rhine river in Roman times
but this river changed its course later on (possibly because of
Roman waterworks near Nijmegen). All along the course were
watchtowers et al. I.e. along the 'then' course, not the 'now'
course. The watchtowers are regularly found in varying condition. A
good Roman road also ran along (a.o.) the Old Rhine. |
