Aurelianus
Lucius Domitius Aurelianus
(AD 214 - 270 - 275)

Aurelianus Restitutor Exerciti
1. Front 2. Back
Bronze Aurelianianus - Æ 20-21 mm - 4 grams - Die axis 00:30 - RIC 366.
1. IMP AVRELIANVS AVG (Imperator Aurelianus Augustus).
Emperor facing right, cuirassed and wearing the radiate crown.
2. RESTITVTO[R EX]ERCITI (Restitutor Exerciti - Restorer of the Armies).
Mars at left, draped, helmeted and wearing cape, right arm outstretched. Emperor, at right, in full armour, radiate, holding spear with right arm, receiving with left globe between them.
2.b Exergue might be XXI but is in effect unreadable. Above the exergue a "B" for the 2nd officina.
Minted in all probability in Cyzicus (the only one to have a 2nd Officina, with this design). XXI possibly standing for the coin being silvered for 1/20-th of it's weight, a sort of state guarantee done for curbing the running inflation.

Obv. : Worn. Spot at 06:00 - 08:00 - Rev. : Worn, could be better when cleaned - Uneven at rim.
