Found in 2004 in the Maas riverbed near Rotterdam. This is a plated coin. Plated coins
have a hart of copper and were covered with a layer of silver before the coin was struck.
They are generally assumed to be forgeries.
Some (hope) they were (literally) struck at the production site and meant to be used to
pay non-roman soldiers as the German hirelings. If this is true then you can imagine these
were not always ‘amused’.
