If an original than TR P X suggests AD 203. COS III confirms this (after AD 202). Quality
of metal suggests an ancient forgery. Also suggesting a forgery is the fact that the obverse
legend wrong : it should have been SEVERVS PIVS AVG only (imitating RIC 185)- unless the L is a
die break.
The obverse die is of high quality and could have been done with the official die. The reverse
die is of much worse quality, the lettering is worn, thick and flat. I wouldn't wonder at all
if this was done with official dies ...
Obv. : Good - Rev. : Good. |
