Faustina Sr Diva Faustina
1. Front 2. Back
Bronze As - Æ 26 mm - 13 grams - Die axis 05:00 - Struck after AD 140.
1. – Legend indiscernible -
Probably : DIVA - FAVSTINA (Diva Faustina - Deified Faustina ). This fits the balance of space either side of the portrait. Bust of draped Empress with cropped hair facing right.
2. [A]VGV-[STA] (Augusta - Empress).
Ceres, seated, in Stola, on chair, facing left holding corn-ears and long scepter. [SC] (Senatus Consulto - By decree of the Senate) at bottom.
This coin was clearly killed in the cleaning process as was coin nr 05. The patina is a funny brown. I suspect it to have been too rudely cleaned with (for example) a bathroom cleaning product, and then been 'covered up' with paint, shoe polish etc.
The ‘Diva’ places the coin after 141. The year of her death. She left a mourning emperor behind, he did not re-marry.
Minted in Rome.

Obv. : Worn, very pitted. Legend indiscernible - Rev. : Worn, very pitted. Legend very difficult to read.
