Bronze Follis - Æ 17-19 mm - 4 grams - Die axis 06:00 - RIC VII (Cyzicus) 18 - Struck AD 321-324.
1. DN VAL LICIN LICINIVS NOB C (Dominus Noster Valerius Licinnianvs Licinivs Nobilitas Caesar - Our Lord V.L.L. the Noble Caesar). Cuirassed bust of helmeted Caesar, facing left. Carries spear at back with right hand and shield in full view at his left side (front).
2. IOVI CON-SERVATORI (Iovi Conservatori - Jupiter the Protector).
Jupiter, standing, full front facing left, naked but with Chlamys off shoulders. In left hand holding staff/scepter, right hand upholding statue of victory on orb who seems to be crowning him. Eagle on the ground left of him holding wreath in beak. At his right on the ground a sitting bent captive facing outwards. Above the captive an X above IIΓ.
2.b ‘SMKA•' : SM = Sacra Moneta (Imperial Money), K = Cyzicus (Kapu Dagh, Turkey), A = 1st Officina.
The X above IIΓ mark was used at Cyzicus, Nicomedia, Heraclea, Antioch and Alexandria. It may have been a sign denoting the coin's worth to be 12,5 denarii.
Cyzicus is the only one to have this series with a helmeted caesar.
