Maximinus portraits go through three main stages, the first looks very much like Severus Alexander, in the second the distinctive chin tends to jut out, and in the third is the truly distinctive classic Maximimus portrait. I would say this is the second type.
Maximinus probably suffered from a condition called acromegaly which results from non-malignate pituitary tumors causing the production of growth hormones to continue into adulthood. Those "exagerated" portraits of him are almost textbook examples of what someone with this disorder might have looked like, as are the descriptions of him being over 7 feet tall and immensly strong.
