1. Front 2. Back
Silver Denarius - Æ 22 mm - 4 grams - Die axis 06:00 - RIC44(b).
1. IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG (Imperator Marcus Julius Phillippus Augustus).
Radiate, draped (and cuirassed ?) bust of bearded emperor facing right. Freshly shaven !
2. ROMAE AETERNAE (Romae Aeternae - Eternal Rome).
Seated Roma, helmeted and in Stola, body full front, facing left. Shield at her back (at right), spear crosswise over coin. Holding sceptre in left arm. Upholding statue of Victory with right arm.
This coin was probably struck for the anniversary of 1000 years Rome (AD 248), which happened in Philip's reign. It was quite a party ! Minted in Rome.
