Head of emperor's brother facing left.
2. [Σ]APΔIANΩ[N] / [MNAΣ]EAΣ (Sardianon, Mnaseas - Of the Sardisians, Mnaseas (Magistrate)). Athena, in helmeted and in chiton, standing full front facing left. With spear in left and holding phiale with right hand.
Sardes had been the capital of the kingdom of Lydia ruled by the legendary King Croesus, and it was subsequently ruled by Persians, Alexander the Great, Seleucids, Pergamum, and finally, after 133 BC by Rome. "Mnaseas is a local official" (Steve Minnoch).
Germanicus, died AD 19, son of Antonia and Nero Claudius Drusus, adopted by Tiberius. He was the father of the Roman emperor Caligula, brother of the emperor Claudius, and grandfather of the emperor Nero. Poisoned in Syria by Govenor Piso, under orders from Emperor Tiberius whose popularity was greatly affected by this and the start of his reign of terror.
