SILV[S] (the Family name). |
|
This coin was struck while M. Sergius Silus was Quaestor, as indicated by the Q on reverse. Silus was the grandfather of Cataline. He struck this coin in honor of his own father (with the same name). This father distinguished himself by his extraordinary bravery during the 2nd Punic War. During these he a.o. lost his right hand and received 23 wounds in two campaigns. Even kept fighting the Carthaginians while still having just one hand !
Minted in Rome.
