Again terracotta from Tarentum as on shelf 2 or shelf 3. At far left the fragment of a dress of a Goddess or deceased. Middle, left, the upper body of the Goddess Artemis-bendis (at her neck's right a piece of lionskin). She was particularly revered in the Tarentum area. Middle right, far right and standing at right leg(s) of the Goddess Artemis (with snake at her legs right). In ancient times the snake stood for health and rebirth. It's untrustworthy caracter was beginning to be emphasized when Chistianity took over in the 3rd century. |
