Kerkrade's Krichelberg road villa, dug up in 1930's & -40's
An article in my local newspaper mentioned the find of a large Roman villa (Villa 1) in the south of the Netherlands. They not only explained about this large villa/farm, but also told of a coming 'open house'. So I had them put my name on the list and went south and for the tour. A wonderful sunny day in the south of the Netherlands. Specialists looking like diggers told us all we wanted to know. The region is well known for it liason with the Romans and must have had quite some villa's. One of them was found a long time ago (Villa 2). Also here after about A.D. 270 living became a more hazardous occupation (see here)
