Also already existant in Roman times, boats a.o. of an arena, (triumphal) gates etc.
The Istria region of Croatia is a beautiful one, as the Romans must have noted too. There is enough to see and much must still be hidden in the ground. Best known 'ancient outings' are Porec and Pula. The first city still preserves in it's centre the traditional layout of the colonia, the second has an enormous Amphitheatre and more. Both have nice museums.
